What Is Rejuran Skin Booster? A Melbourne Nurse Explains...
Updated: Sep 20

Rejuran Skin Booster starts from $469 at our Mentone clinic in bayside Melbourne, and every treatment is carried out by Megan Deans, a Registered Nurse. It is one of the questions we are asked about most, so this is a straight explanation of what it is, what it costs, what the appointment involves and what to expect afterwards.
What is Rejuran skin booster?
Rejuran is an injectable skin treatment that uses polynucleotide technology, usually shortened to PN. It is delivered as a series of fine micro-injections into the skin rather than being applied to the surface.
It sits in a different category from dermal filler. Filler is used to add volume and change contour. Rejuran is used to work on the quality and condition of the skin itself, supporting texture, hydration and elasticity.
Rejuran originated in South Korea and has become widely used across Asia and Australia over the last several years.
What is Rejuran made from?
The polynucleotides in Rejuran are derived from salmon DNA, which is purified for cosmetic use.
That surprises people, so it is worth being plain about it. If you have a fish or seafood allergy, tell your nurse at your consultation, because it is directly relevant to whether Rejuran is suitable for you.
How much does Rejuran cost in Melbourne?
Rejuran Skin Booster starts from $469 per treatment at Contour Aesthetics.
That price includes your consultation and skin assessment, the treatment itself, and aftercare advice. There is no separate consultation fee.
Rejuran is usually given as a course rather than as a one-off, so it is worth asking about the full plan at your consultation rather than budgeting for a single appointment. The section on how many treatments you will need, below, explains why.
Which Rejuran is right for me?
There are three formulations, and they are not interchangeable. Which one suits you is decided at your consultation, based on the area being treated and what you are working towards.
Rejuran Healer 2ml is used for general rejuvenation across the face.
Rejuran i 1ml is formulated for the delicate skin under the eyes.
Rejuran s 1ml is used specifically in the treatment of scarring.
It is common to use more than one across a course if different areas are being addressed.
How is Rejuran different from dermal filler?
This is the question we are asked more than any other, and the distinction matters because the two treatments do genuinely different jobs.
Dermal filler adds volume. It is used where the goal is to restore or change the shape and contour of an area.
Rejuran does not add volume. It works on the condition of the skin, which is why it is described as a skin booster rather than a filler. People sometimes have both, for different reasons, and sometimes only one is appropriate.
Which of those is right for you, or whether either is, is a conversation to have at a consultation rather than something to decide from a website.
How is Rejuran different from microneedling?
Both are used to work on skin quality, but they go about it differently.
Microneedling uses fine needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin, prompting the skin's own repair process. Nothing is introduced into the skin beyond what your body produces itself.
Rejuran introduces polynucleotides into the skin via injection.
We offer both, along with PRX Plus, which is needle-free. Which one suits your skin is exactly the sort of thing a consultation is for.

What does a Rejuran appointment involve?
Your first appointment starts with a consultation and skin assessment. Megan will ask what is bothering you, look at your skin, take a history and talk through whether Rejuran is appropriate and which formulation fits.
A topical numbing cream is applied and left to take effect before treatment begins.
The treatment itself is a series of fine micro-injections into the treatment area. The appointment usually runs 30 to 45 minutes including numbing time.
Afterwards you will be given aftercare advice covering what to avoid over the following days, including sun exposure, heat and strenuous exercise.
Does Rejuran hurt?
Rejuran is administered as a series of fine micro-injections, and a topical numbing cream is applied beforehand to keep you comfortable during treatment.
Most people describe it as very manageable. If you are anxious about injections, say so when you book, because there is no benefit in sitting through something without mentioning it.
Is there any downtime after Rejuran?
Yes, there is some, and it is worth planning around.
Most people find things settle within three to five days.
Rejuran is injected, so small bumps at the injection points are normal immediately after treatment. You may also notice redness, and bruising is possible.
Injection sites usually close within 24 to 48 hours, and makeup can be worn once they have healed. Any remaining bumps or redness generally settle over the following few days.
Your nurse will explain what to expect for your skin and how to look after it in the first days after treatment.
How many Rejuran treatments will I need?
Rejuran is given as a course of three treatments, spaced two to four weeks apart.
Most clients then have maintenance treatments every four to six months, depending on their skin and what they are working towards.
The plan that suits you is agreed at your consultation, including which of the three formulations is used and whether more than one is appropriate.
How long before a wedding or event should I have Rejuran?
Allow 24 to 48 hours at minimum. Injection sites usually close within that time and makeup can be worn once they have healed.
Any bumps or redness still settling over the following days can be covered with makeup, so Rejuran can be timed comfortably ahead of an event.
If you are planning treatment before a specific date, mention it when you book so your appointment can be timed properly. That is much easier to plan at the start than to work around later.
Who is Rejuran suitable for?
Suitability is assessed individually, which is not a way of avoiding the question. It genuinely depends on your skin, your medical history, what you are trying to address and what else you have had done.
Rejuran is not suitable for everyone, and there are circumstances where another treatment is a better fit or where treatment should be deferred. A consultation exists to work that out properly, including a fish and seafood allergy history, which is specifically relevant here.
If Rejuran is not right for you, we will say so and talk through what might be.
